A list of the culture war stories that the Conservatives are encouraging the British people to argue about, before the general election.
Recently, it’s been reported thar Lee Anderson, Deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, has said that the Conservatives will be relying on culture war ahead of the next election. So I’m going to keep a list of the culture war distraction stories that the Conservatives are encouraging the British people to argue about. I’ll be updating this list occasionally (when I can bear it), so subscribe for the latest entries.
I think that as inequality grows, so does the manufacturing and amplifying of pro-Elite stories and ideas. I see Brexit and “Culture War” through this (grimy) lens. If I’m correct, as the Conservatives continue to move further away from the concerns of the majority of voters, instead of promoting policies that will improve the majority of lives, they will, instead, ramp-up the production of distractions.
A list of pre-general election culture war stories
Not all of these stories will spark emotive debate – but I’m assuming the Conservatives will keep trying until they find some that do. I’m interested to see which inflammatory stories the Conservatives will be relying on at election time.
March 2023:
They’re already trolling around “Nazis”.
Gary Lineker and the BBC
Gullis claiming Lineker is calling Northern voters racists and Nazis
(because Lineker criticised the inflammatory language used by Conservatives around immigration).
Illegal Immigration bill – use of dehumanising language; “stop the boats etc”.
“Nazis were leftwing” – Peter Hitchins etc
Feb 2023:
The rights of transsexual people. (thanks to @LillyLyle)
Roald Dahl: Rishi Sunak joins criticism of changes to author’s books. Feb 2023
